Spic ‘n Span Sunday

Spic ‘n Span Sunday

“Buzzzzz. Buzzzzz. Buzzzzzzz…..” There is nothing like the sound of an old school 1992 alarm clock to rip you from the pleasant world of 13-year-old dreamland. Growing up in my family, Sunday was 8:00 Mass and Spic ‘n Span Sunday.   If you go back in time and ask the teenage me, I’m sure I’d accompany my over-the-top, dramatic eye roll with one word, disgust.  I’m talking, moan, groan, whine, complain, and pout kind of hatred. We would wake up at what felt like dawn in order to make it to Mass, have breakfast, and then chores {read:complaining} would begin. In my house, we weren’t allowed to do anything until EVERYTHING was clean to the best of our ability. My 13-year-old self was convinced that this was some twisted form of torture. Aren’t teenagers awesome {sigh…} Time for Spic ‘n Span Sunday.

Looking back 20 years later, it is very clear how short-sighted and dramatic my teenage self was.  Those Sundays have become the solid foundation of hard work, memories, and most importantly, quality family time that I have come to cherish and in turn, is the inspiration for this blog.  What I had viewed as obvious tactics for torture were really gifts of family time that I will forever cherish. The memories that we made on each Sunday from cleaning together, cooking in the kitchen, to sitting down at the table to do a “project”, all combine to produce the foundation for this blog and the foundation of my own family today.
