The Best Laid Plans: Ariel Edition

Wow. Yesterday marked the day, four years ago, when my beautiful, sweet baby girl came kicking and screaming into the world. The last four years with her has been such a wild ride, I can’t wait to see what amazing adventures await her for the next four years. Here is where our best laid plans: Ariel Edition began…

Little Miss decided she wanted a princess cake. You know the one I’m talking about, the one with the princess in the middle and the cake is her dress. Yep, that one. Never one to shy away from a challenge, I said, “Let’s do it.”

I’m not THAT mom

Now I should let you in on a little secret…I’m not “that” mom. You know the one that “has it all together”- that mom=not me. I can’t wave my magic wand and have a miracle of perfection appear like so many moms. Even though I know this about myself, that doesn’t stop me from trying. After all, I owe it to my little girl to do my best so I figured I’d be in for an adventure.

Here is how my original plan went: (1)Pick up the requested Ariel doll the day before. (2)Drop Birthday Girl and Big Brother off at school. (3)Baby and I make and bake the cake. (4) Pick up Birthday Girl and Big Brother. (5) Have plenty of time for the cake to cool and decorate before her birthday dinner.

I went in search at Michaels for the pan for the dress form that my SIL told me about. Sure enough, I found it there. Then I saw the price tag….$28, um….no. That was not going to happen. I decided to try my luck with a bundt pan. Here were my ingredients:

Needless to say my plan is not how the day actually went. At. All. Missing ingredients, multiple trips to the store, exploded food coloring, and a twice as long baking time later, here is MY miracle of confection perfection.

Not exactly set to be the next Pinterest sensation but really, all things considered, it’s actually pretty good. Besides, Little Miss loved it and Tiny enjoyed making it with me. I guess in the end, that’s all that really mattered.

Interested in getting an “official” dress pan and hopefully having better results. Check out this one from Amazon, $23.

Good Luck!

Keep Smiling,
